Winners are Grinners!!!

June 23, 2025 | General

The Illawarra Cancer Carers have been very fortunate of late:

Life Saving Defibrillator

Earlier this year our local radio station, Wave FM, were running a competition to win a Defib Machine, so they launched a life saving community initiative, giving local community groups and businesses the chance to score a FREE Heart180 Lifepak CR2 Life Saving Defibrillator.

As our sewing and craft ladies are no longer “Spring Chickens”, I thought this was a great opportunity for our group, to be prepared, in case anything ever happened, so I went ahead and registered our group, and we won one of them!

Thank you to the local Community Bank (Oak Flats & Gerringong) Bendigo Banks and Wave FM for supporting this initiative!

i98 Illawarra Convoy

Thanks to Geoff Failes, who tirelessly works on applying for our grants and submissions, we were extremely fortunate to be awarded $75,000 from the i98 Illawarra Convoy.  These monies will be put towards reimbursing our drivers who transport patients to and from their various cancer-related appointments.

i98 – Help is on the Horizon

While working on a stall in April this year, our President, Narelle Langridge, entered the “i98 – Help is on the Horizon” competition.  She didn’t hold a lot of hope and had actually forgotten about it, until she received a phone call last week advising she had won $500 for the Illawarra Cancer Carers – you can listen to the interview here:

Blooming with Appreciation

Last Friday at our sewing group the ladies were pleasantly surprised to receive a visit from Greenacres Disability Services.  This group has a program called “Blooming with Appreciation” where they make bouquets from donated flowers and give them to people who support the community.  It gets the clients out and about in the community, giving them a chance to engage and boost their confidence, whilst acknowledging the efforts of community members.  This program is relatively new and has only been running for the past 6 weeks, but the participants love it.
