Sewing & Craft Stalls

Our Sewing & Craft group meets at Dapto Showground every Friday in the pavilion (entry is via the Mulda Street entrance) from 9.00am to 12.00pm.  You can purchase anything you see, and at the same time take a look at what our ladies get up to in our sewing group.  Everyone is welcome and we also take eftpos and cash at every stall we have.

If you happen to be doing a destash of your cottons, wools, craft or haberdashery items, and would like to donate them to our group, then please drop off one Friday morning, where our ladies will happily accept your donations.  If you are unable to drop off your items, then please contact Narelle on 0414 280 127 as she will be able to make an arrangement with you to collect them.

During June we will be having stalls at Corrimal (outside Coles) on Wednesday 3 June and at Shell Cove on Thursday 18 June (near Woolworths) and finish up the month at Dapto Mall (in the food court) on Thursday 25 June.  Pop on by and say hi to our lovely volunteers and see what we have to offer.  As the weather begins to cool we will have a lovely array of knitted and crocheted blankets, bed socks, beanies, scarves, heat wheat bags and hot water bottle covers, just to name a few of the items.

As for July stalls, we have our first one booked in for Wednesday 1 July at Corrimal (outside Coles) from 9.0oam to 3.00pm.  As soon as we have any others booked in, I’ll let you know.

Thanks to Sonia, our sewing and craft ladies have started a new project, and have begun knitting or crocheting Memory Hearts, and you can get on board and help make some too.

These hearts are often called “Compassion” or “Memory” hearts.  They provide comfort to patients and their families in Palliative Care.  The heart is held in the hands of the patient and loved one, symbolising connection.  It usually goes home with the loved one.

You can access the patterns here:

These links provide both the crochet pattern and the knitting pattern for the Hearts, which volunteers can then download.  If you do not have access to a computer or printer, please contact Vera on 0413 548 983 and a copy will be mailed direct to you.

We have also been asked by the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Wollongong Hospital to make some more trauma teddies.  Our first lot went down like a treat and the supplies have now been depleted, so if you would like to make some to add to our collection, then they would be very much appreciated.

Another request has come from some of the aged care facilities in the area asking for “fiddle mats”.  We have previously made “fiddle muffs”, but have accepted the challenge to make some.  These are generally used by Dementia patients as a form of distraction, so the ladies have been busy putting some of these together.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our group.  Monies raised from these stalls goes towards helping cancer patients right here in the Illawarra.
